The Community Centre was taken over by artisans for the Handmade Parade last weekend. Amongst them were several Revelstoke crafts people. Here is just a sample of what could be found.
Handmade Paperworks
by Yvonne Thompson
Yvonne Thompson makes one-of-a-kind, unique, handmade greeting cards, journals, and other items. She designs them by herself, cuts the paper, and binds them all by herself at her home studio.
The graphics come from old books she’s bought, discs of vintage photos purchased online or given to her by friends and families; and images from her collection of 1950s Life Magazine.
Her greeting cards can be found in eight stores in Vancouver and at Legends & Heroes and Creative Flowers and Gifts in Revelstoke.
Savary Naturals
by Krista Cadieux
Krista Cadieux makes face oils, chap sticks and other products at her Revelstoke home. She learned the process from a book she purchased, however she said the recipes have been “McGyver-ed” by her, so they are unique.
She began Savary Naturals while living on Savary Island. At first it was for herself and then as gifts for friend. She kept it going after moving to Revelstoke and now only sells her products around Christmas. Her products are all made from natural ingredients.
In Your Skin Soap & Body Care
by Mindy Skinner
Mindy Skinner started making her own soap when she was living in Calgary.
She makes hot-process soap, which is much rougher than normal soap, but also much faster to make. “People like it because it’s more organic and has more of raw look to it,” she says.
The soap is made out of lye, fats, and a variety of oils. After mixing, she double-boils the soap and then adds essential oils and vitamin E.
She infuses her soaps with natural scents, doesn’t use any preservatives and uses ingredients that are as local as possible, she said.
She also makes salt scrubs which are good for sore muscles and sugar scrubs which are more gentle and better for those with sensitive skin.
To purchase, contact Skinner at (250) 837-3063 or by e-mail at inyourskin@live.ca.
