Hundreds of people gathered outside the Revelstoke Forum Sunday to show their community spirit and love of hockey. The photoshoot was for entry into the CBC/Kraft Hockeyville contest. Local photographer Kip Wiley took the photo. The organizing committee also chose a slogan: “Our story begins and ends on the ice.” It was submitted by Ramona Shaw on the groups Facebook group, Revelstoke Hockeyville 2010.

The Revelstoke Hockeyville application was accepted into the CBC Hockeyville competition Thursday.

"Hockey has always sizzled in the blood of Revelstoke, BC’s, people," the letter begins. "Before it was even a city young men and women played hockey on the ice-covered Columbia River. That 111-year love affair with what many Canadians say is our real national game continues today."

The letter continues with a history of hockey in Revelstoke and talks about the community's hockey spirit.

"We are passionate about hockey. Residents young and old enjoy minor co-ed hockey at all levels and show their support by filling the stands of The Forum. From those first pucks dropped on the cold winter ice of the Columbia River in the late 1800s to The Forum of today, hockey is nurtured by local people. Our pride in tradition is reflected in the special Revelstoke History of Hockey exhibits on The Forum’s walls."

Last Sunday a crowd of about 200 people gathered at the arena for a photo shoot that will accompany the letter.
