2009 Revelstoke Homecoming underway!
The Colorful Quilt (detail) was pieced and quilted by Peggy Dafoe and designed by Jacqueline de Jonge. It is just one of many dazzling Mount Revelstoke Quilter's Guild works on display at the Revelstoke Community Centre as part of their Homecoming 2009 display.

The Revelstoke Homecoming 2009 is underway, and I had the opportunity to drop by some of the ongoing events today.

The Mount Revelstoke Quilter's Guild display at the Revelstoke Community Centre is a standout and a must see over the weekend.
I got a tour from guild president Irene Scarcella, who showed me around the three rooms that had dozens and dozens of quilts on display. The guild teamed up with Filigree Antiques & Unique Things who donated furniture and other antiques to give the display the feeling of a living room.
Maybe because I'm not much of a quilt guy, I was blown away by the variety, creativity and beauty of the works on display. All of the rooms are blanketed with quilts, and you'll soon forget you are at the community centre.
Again, this is a must see for anyone who is at all interested in quilts, and I'm sure that those who are on the fence as to whether they'd be into it will be won over if they go have a look.
Check out the photo gallery for a small taste of the many works on display.

I chatted with Revelstoke Senior Citizen's Association president Ruth Boettiger and volunteer Lorraine Cadwallader at the seniors centre about the slideshow they produced for homecoming.
Working with Anita Hallewas and Carol Fitchett of Okanagan College, about a dozen centre members worked over the past months to put the slideshow together.
They scanned original photos and put together a PowerPoint presentation that runs for about 40 minutes.
Cadwallader says she enjoyed working with the college staff, who also gave classes on Facebook. Cadwallader says some of the seniors now use the social networking site to update each other on their activities. She also keeps in touch with her grandchildren who live in Indianapolis using Facebook.
There is enough baking at the seniors centre to feed a small army, and there were about 75 people catching up and socializing when I was there. The centre is bound to be a hub for socializing over the next few days.

The Family Tree display at the Fire Hall was put together for the previous reunion. It features poster displays of family trees from dozens of pioneer families.
You can learn about families such as (in no particular order) the Robinsons, Abrahamsons, Hooleys, Kaduhrs, Sawyers, Caponeros, Gallicanos, Uppers and many, many more.
Like all of the events I attended today, the family tree display lent itself to socializing and meeting new people.
I met Barbara and James Jamieson who were there to look at all of the displays, as well as two that Barbara made.
Long-time resident John Flick came up and introduced himself to me, and we had a chat about politics, local history, surveying and more. Our conversation was typical of many I've had so far on the homecoming weekend -- a great chance to catch up with old friends and meet new ones!
