A few struggles late in the season for the Nelson U16 Selects didn't seem to hurt the team in its opening game of the B.C. Provincial B Cup Championships on July 2.
Eric Norbes scored late in the first half and that proved to be the only offence Nelson would need as it beat Kamloops 1-nil in its first game of the tournament.
"It is a good way to start," said team captain Kevin Lewis. "But I think we are going to need to step it up tomorrow because I think we are going to be playing a much tougher team."
Nelson takes on Ladner in action tomorrow at the Pass Creek Park, which is a team they lost to 2-1 at last year's provincials.
"They should be a good team," said Lewis, who added that Nelson owned much of the possession in July 2’s game.
"Our keeper, Brendan Mierau, also played really well. He didn't get a lot of action, but he really stepped up when we needed him."
