If there was ever a chance to knock off the number one seed at this year's

B.C. Provincial B Cup championship, then Thursday morning at Lakeside Field was the time.

Unfortunately, for Nelson's U15 Selects, it just wasn't to be.

Heading into the second half and down only one goal against the number-one-seeded team from Kamloops, Nelson had two great chances to equalize, including a missed open net from a perfect cross early in the second half.

That chance seemed to give Nelson all of the momentum and an equalizer seemed likely. Minutes later Nelson again almost scored on a perfectly struck corner kick. However, Nelson's inability to finish cost them dearly, and immediately, as Kamloops was quick to push the ball upfield following the missed corner.

Then a defensive miscue allowed a Kamloops striker far more time on the ball than he likely needed and he easily scored to give the visitors a two-goal cushion.

Nelson scored again before the end of the game and were again putting pressure on Kamloops when another defensive miscue led to yet another

Kamloops goal.

"We had our chances," said coach Justin Willans. "I told the boys if there was ever a chance to knock off the number one team, then this was it, and we almost pulled it off. I'm happy with how we played, but a few mental lapses really cost us."

Scoring for Nelson were Shawn de Groot in the first half and Mitchell Shawhauser in the second half.
