A grow operation in Salmo was raided on June 17 and 453 marijuana plants were seized.

Members of the Kootenay Boundary Regional Detachment executed a search warrant at a property near Salmo and arrested two male suspects.

The investigation began when an officer was flagged down by a biologist concerned for the well-being of a parrot perched atop a power line. The officer tracked down the owners of the parrot, who lived nearby.

The owners are in the business of raising a large number of parrots on their property. The officer discovered evidence of a grow op and was able to obtain a search warrant.

There are no health or safety issues with the parrots.

The investigation is continuing.
