Whether you want to support local farmers, address climate change or indulge your taste buds, eating local food makes sense.

Nelson’s farmers’ markets are responding to the growing interest in local food.

Starting next spring, the markets will be expanding in exciting new directions.

The West Kootenay EcoSociety is currently gathering public input on ways the farmers’ markets could be enhanced.

Anna Kirkpatrick is co-ordinating the EcoSociety’s market expansion effort.

“Nelson’s farmers’ markets belong to everyone and we are seeking everyone’s input on the the direction the markets should take,” said Kirkpatrick.

Where do you think the farmers’ markets should be located?

What items would you like to see at the market that are currently unavailable?

Your answers to these and other questions will help shape the future of Nelson’s farmers’ markets.

There are many ways to contribute your ideas.

Fill out the survey available on line at www.eco.kics.bc.ca.

Those who prefer may contact Kirkpatrick for a paper copy of the survey.

A survey tailored specifically for farmers and food producers is also available.

Keep your eyes peeled for information tables at various locations around town.
