Shutterbugs make final list
Three amateur photographers from the Nelson area made it to the top 10 list in the Columbia Basin Trust’s first photo contest.
Last summer, the CBT asked people from everywhere in the basin, from Golden to Creston, to submit photos taken in the area.
With each photo submission entrants were asked to explain the photo’s significance.
The contest ended Oct. 1 and a panel of judges were tasked with selecting their 10 favourite from over 1,000 submissions.
“I know they had a hard time picking from all the amazing entries,” said CBT communications director Delphi Hoodicoff.
The 10 are now on the CBT website where people can vote for their favourite.
The photo with the most votes will win a gift basket valued at $500, while all the finalists receive a framed print of their photo.
The Nelsonites in the running are Douglas Noblet for a landscape shot of Mt. Prestley and Valhalla Lake and Laurie Sittler with a winter photo taken in Memorial Park.
Kathy Howard of South Slocan also has a photo of the flowers near Dennis Creek.
“We’ve been getting a lot of traffic on the site as the photographers ask their friends and family to vote for them,” said Hoodicoff.
To see the top 10 photos and vote for your favourite visit cbt.org/vote.
And if you want to click through more shots from the area, all the entries are online at cbt.org/yourbasin.
“We are so lucky to live in such a beautiful area,” said Hoodicoff. “When we called for these entries, most of what we got were landscape.”
The basin encompasses such a large area, and Hoodicoff hopes people will look at the photos and see parts of it they haven’t seen before.
“We wanted a way for people to feel connected to each other, no matter what part of the basin they live in,” said Hoodicoff.
“The beauty of this area, which we see through these pictures, is something that we can all share in.”
