The novel Sounding Line by Nelson writer Anne DeGrace, recently published by McArthur & Co., has been optioned to Gregory Mackenzie of Impatient Pictures Ltd, by Morty Mint of Mint Agency.

Sounding Line, one of the most eagerly awaited novels of the year, tells the story of a UFO crash into a Nova Scotia village harbour, and how the closely-knit community is overturned as the military and media descend. Based on a true incident - considered Canada’s Roswell - that occurred in 1967 in Shag Harbour, NS., it is a novel about space, depth and possibility. Sounding Line has already received the honour of being chosen as a “Heather’s Picks” selection by Chapters/Indigo CEO, Heather Reisman.

Anne DeGrace is a librarian, journalist, writer, illustrator, volunteer and multi-tasker. She is the author of award-winning Treading Water and Wind Tails.

In Sounding Line she draws from her family’s Nova Scotian roots.

DeGrace will be speaking at the upcoming Vancouver International Writers and Readers Festival (Oct. 25 & 26) and at The International Festival of Writers (Oct. 30 & 31) at Toronto’s Harbourfront Centre.

Impatient Pictures’ Gregory Mackenzie, a part-time “Nelsonite,” read an advance reading copy of Sounding Line and within days met with literary agent Morty Mint. They arrived at a deal before the novel went to press. Impatient Pictures Ltd. is a Canadian-based company engaged in the development, production and financing of feature films. They are presently producing Damn Cold, 8th Day, and Shipbreakers. Mackenzie produced and directed the newly released feature film Camille starring Sienna Miller and James Franco, and is producing Little Green Men, a movie adaptation of the novel by Christopher Buckley.

The Mint Agency and Mint Publishing were founded by Morty Mint - also a part-time resident of Nelson - former President of Penguin Canada and Penguin US.
