Brian May is hoping he hasn’t used up his luck winning cars.
The member of the Kootenay Lake Hospital Foundation entered the winning ballot into the raffle for the kid’s peddle car being given away by the Road Kings’ as a fundraiser for the KLHF CT Scanner fund.
But that prize is nothing compared to what the Road Kings will be raffling off next year, when they draw for a 1955 Corvette — the real deal, in adult size.
“That’s what I’d really like to win,” May said, joking that “maybe this is just a warm up.”
May never enters his own name in raffles, so it was his adult son Aaron whose name was on the winning ticket. May said Aaron hadn’t decided what to do with the toy car yet.
The sold out raffle brought in $5,000 for the hospital foundation. Road King President Mike Keegan said the club, with over 100 members, has always had a strong spirit of giving back to the community.
“We know raising money for the CT scanner is a really worthy cause,” Keegan said.
May said he’s amazed by the support he’s seen from the Road Kings.
“With such a big goal to raise $1.5 million, we planned a number of cornerstone projects; we didn’t expect a service club would step up and become one of those cornerstones,” May said.
With the Corvette raffle expected to bring in $125,000 this time next year (with 2,500 tickets sold for $50 each) May said the timing will be perfect.
Keegan expects tickets will be ready later this fall.
