Ice jump out to early 2-0 lead over Regina

Ice head into tonight's game against Regina in third place in the Central Division with an 11-12-1-0 record. The team has three straights wins and are in the middle of a mini-homestand.

Regina comes into town with an 11-11-3-0 record. In the tough Eastern Division, that's get you sixth and last place. The Pats are eighth in the Eastern Conference, one point ahead of Kootenay for the last play-off spot.

Centre iceman Jordan Eberle leads Regina with 41 points in 20 games. Jordan Weale, also a centreman, is second with 34 points. Overall, the Pats are fourth in the WHL in scoring offence with 94 goals in 25 games; an average of 3.76.

The more defensive-oriented Ice have an average of 2.94 with 70 goals in 24 games.

Teams both start tentatively with neither team getting any solid scoring chances early in the first period.

27 gets a solid shot on Mathews just inside the four minutes mark, but the Ice goalie stops it.

Joe Antilla gets a shot on goal from a tough angle.

Alex Pym of Regina gets a quick slapper on net, but Mathews blocks it.

Garrett Mitchell makes a nice toe drag but misses the Ice net.

Dominick Favreau gets the first penalty of the game for Regina at the 8:27 mark of the first period.

Ice struggle to mount any offence on the ensuing power play as rookie Petr Senkerik gives the puck away at the Pats blueline.

Dustin Sylvester finds Joey Leach trailing on a three on one and the young defender snaps the puck past Regina goalie Damien Ketlo to give the Ice the 1-0 lead. Kevin King also assisted on the goal, which happened at 14:51 of the first period.

Ice get another penalty chance, as 15:54

Kootenay capitalizes on the power play chance as Kevin King scores his ninth of the season to give the Ice the 2-0 lead in the first period. Dominik Pacovsky and Steele Boomer pick up assists on the King goal.

Pats press trying to cut the lead, but the Ice keep the visitors at bay.

Sylvester gets a quick shot on net for the Ice, but Ketlo makes the save.

Leach loses the puck in the Ice zone, but Hayden Rintoul bales him out - knocking the puck safely out of the zone.

King comes in with 2 seconds left, but his shot is deflected out of bounds off a Pat stick.

Ice lead 2-0 after the first period.
