Kootenay unable to quell Rebel yell, as Red Deer beat Ice 4-3 in overtime

Red Deer leads Kootenay 3-2 heading into the third period.

Ice putting pressure on Rebels early in the second period as they await the Rebel penalty to Justin Weller.

One timer from Boomer goes wide. Next play, Boomer feeds King who misses the wide open net. Rebels successfully kill penalty.

Mathews gets the blocker on a strong blue line shot from Rebel captain Colin Archer.

Joey Leach gets a low blue line shot on net, but Barnstable makes the stop.

Ice's Jesse Ismond feeds Max Reinhart, who misses the net on a wide open snap shot from close.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins gets a nice chance for the Rebels, but is hauled down by Reinhart resulting in a penalty for the Ice centre.

2 shoots from the blue line, puck bounces around but Mathews keeps it out. Kootenay's Cason Machacek and Red Deer's Nathan Green pick up penalties from unsportsmanlike conductg on the ensuing scrum.

Kevin King ties the game for the Ice as he scores on a nifty backhand on the penalty kill. The goal, King's sixth, was at 16:41 of the third period and was assisted by Dustin Sylvester and Leach.

Coetzee gets a chance in close on Mathews as the Rebels buzz around the Ice net with a minute left in the third, but misses.

Third period ends with the teams tied at 3 each. Folks, were heading for overtime again.

This will be the Ice's second consecutive overtime home game. They beat Seattle 1-0 last Sunday.

Overtime starts with the teams at four skaters apiece.

A King give away in the Ice end leads to a solid shot by Red Deer's Ferraro, but Mathews comes up with the save.

Red Deer scores the game winner at 3:06 of overtime as Colin Archer knocks the rebound into the wide open net. Red Deer wins 4-3 in overtime.
