Ice and Red Deer meet tonight in the second game of a home and home.
Kootenay beat Red Deer 4-1 last night, getting some much needed offence and winning their third game in a row. Scoring for the Ice were Dustin Sylvester, Kevin King, Jesse Ismond and Petr Senkerik. Senkerik and Sylvester also added two assisted each.
Defenceman Cason Machacek and Drew Czerwonka are back in the line-up for the Ice after missing several games each.
Before the national anthem, members of the Canadian Legion join the players on the Ice during a Remembrance Week reading of 'In Flanders Field'.
Ice put pressure on early with Peter Senkerik putting a shot on net, the ensuing scrum results in a Rebel penalty.
Ice score at 4:01 on the power play as Dustin Sylvester, with his seventh of the season, takes a nice centering pass from Steele Boomer and fired it pass Rebel netminder
Red Deer comes right back as Will Coetzee scores on a naked breakaway at 6:33 of the first period. Coetzee was assisted by Andrej Kudrna and Colin Archer.
Max Reinhart gets a chance on goal with nine minutes gone in the first, but Barstable gets his pad on it.
A Rebel giveaway gives Czerwonka a chance near the side of the net, but the Ice winger can't connect.
Machacek picks up a penalty near the 12 minute mark for crosschecking.
Ice kill the penalty easily.
Dominik Pacovsky centres the puck from behind the Rebel net, but Brendan Hurley is stopped by Barnstable.
Ice have a power play opportunity with five minutes left in the first period, but other than a few wide misses, get no chances.
Macovsky comes out of a tie up in the corner and gets a nice shot on goal, but can't score.
Ice goalie Todd Mathews stops Rebel forward Landon Ferraro in close with a minute and a half left as things open up.
First period ends in a 1-1 tie.
