'No' flyer well researched

In response to some recent comments in letters to the editor, with respect to Citizens for a Livable Cranbrook Society, let me clarify that the flyer produced by the society volunteers has been well researched and our sources credited, several of which are taken directly from the City of Cranbrook documents and their professional staff. This is not "fear and negativity". The facts speak for themselves.
Our hope is that people will have sufficient information to see the wisdom in slowing down the proposal to create a separate second city attached by a thin strip of land with one road. According to the City's own draft Economic Development Strategy document "Clearly, there are ample unused or underutilized industrial lots available for businesses that want to expand, start-up, or relocate to the city of Cranbrook." Ample lands available to create jobs for the future.
With respect to a public debate, we offer the following:
- We did discuss the possibility of participating in a forum with JCI and made a presentation to JCI. Afterwards we were advised that JCI supported the yes campaign and we raised the issue of neutrality. Following an exchange of e-mails JCI retracted their offer. CLC directors would still consider participation in a forum if a neutral venue could be provided.
- CLC Society is conducting several neighbourhood information/discussion sessions which all are welcome to attend. Our next neighbourhood meeting is Wednesday, Oct. 28 at the Manual Training Centre (Library) from 7-8:30 pm.
- Our most recent neighbourhood meeting held at Laurie School was lively and we were able to engage the public on both sides of the issue. This is the kind of debate and engagement we should be having in keeping with the spirit of consultation.
CLC Society has no land investments or monetary gains to be had, nor is the Society selling a concept. Instead we have researched the issues and are presenting factual information in order to help create an informed public. Without an informed public, democracy ceases to exist.
Regardless of people's position on the issue we encourage people to exercise their democratic right to get out and vote.
