The numbers are in for the joint Cranbrook Fire Department and Harley Owners Group, (HOG) Harley motorcycle raffle. The groups raised approximately $30,000, all of which will go towards Muscular Dystrophy.
"It feels just awesome," said Bill Munro,of the Cranbrook Fire Department. "We have a huge thank you list this year."
Jeremy Lavois won the coveted Harley this year and Munro explained that having a prize like that makes it easy to sell tickets for the raffle.
Guy Liboiron, media relations coordinator for HOG Canada, Kootenay chapter, said that since 1996, HOG and the fire department have raised around $250,000 for Muscular Dystrophy.
He was also pleased to point out that on February 6, the group was awarded the 'Newsmaker of the Year' award by the Cranbrook Chamber of Commerce for putting on the Western Regional Rally during the summer. Approximately 700 riders showed up for that event, which Liboiron estimates brought in more than $500,000 to the city.
"For a community this size, that was a fantastic turnout," said Liboiron. "We figure the average person spends between $800 and $1,000 at these events."
