East Kootenay young scientist recognized with provincial award
Keltie Murdoch captured two awards for her submission into the 2009 East Kootenay Regional Science Fair.
Keltie Murdoch, a grade 8 student at Parkland Middle School, has been named the 2009 recipient of the W.E. Coates Award.
This award, presented by the Canadian Land Reclamation Association (B.C. Chapter), is in recognition of an outstanding science fair project related to land, aquatic or marine environment reclamation and rehabilitation. Murdoch’s project, Garbage In... Not Garbage Out, presented at the East Kootenay Regional Science Fair 2009 investigated incineration as an alternative to landfilling of municipal solid waste from environmental, health
and economic perspectives and explored ways that byproducts of incineration could be used.
Murdoch was also the recipient of Best in Fair at the EKRSF 2009 and was chosen to advance to the Canada-Wide Science Fair in Winnipeg, Manitoba along with four other EK youth.
