There’s a hometown Wolfe on the ice

Geoff Wolfe spent his time as a youth growing up and playing hockey in Invermere where he watched the Columbia Valley Rockies since the age of five.

This season Geoff has received the chance to play for the team that has been a part of his life for such a long time. Being a hometown player for the Rockies has been a special experience for Geoff so far.

“It’s been fun playing in front of everyone,” he said. “It is something that every kid goes for when they play minor league hockey. At some point you want to have a chance to end up here.” Geoff added, “It was nice pulling on the jersey and skating in front of friends and family.”

The chance to play for the Rockies has allowed him to continue to play the sport that has been such a big part of his life. He has worked his way through many different divisions of hockey and has not given up on the hope there will be a next step to his hockey journey.

For right now though he is very happy to be a part of the Rockies both because of the game and the people he plays with.

Geoff said, “This is just great because I get to go out and have fun. I have new teammates and good buddies. This is where memories are truly made.” Being a rookie on the team has meant Geoff has had to work hard to get up to the level of Junior B hockey.

He said, “There are three things I have had to get used to. The long road trips are difficult. Also the speed and skill of the players in the league is very different than what I faced in the past.”

Geoff is not only playing hockey on a full-time basis. He is also working for his father at the John Wolfe Construction Company. This is just one more challenge for the player. Many of his days start around 5 a.m. and go until after hockey practice in the evening, but this is something Geoff is willing to do because he wants to push himself as far as he can go.

His family has been very supportive during this drive to work and play hockey. Geoff’s father tries to make as many games as he can and always talks to his son after the games end about what happened on the ice.

In the end Geoff is using this year to not only become a better hockey player but also a better person off the ice. This idea has been stressed to all players by Rockies’ head coach Rob Rice.

Though he has no set plans for his hockey future Geoff hopes to be a returning as a Rockie next year.
