Columbia Valley Rockies goalie Scott Ismond’s season ended with a hard splash landing.

Ismond was cliff diving at Twin Lakes when he landed awkwardly after diving from as high as a 90 foot edge.

Cliff diving is said to be one of the riskier kinds of diving and people are advised to use extreme caution before attempting any jumps. With divers reaching speeds of 75 – 100 km/h this type of activity is very dangerous for anyone who attempts to take part in the extreme sport.

After being taken to hospital it was determined that the all-star goalie had damaged his spleen.

Although Ismond will recover from his injuries, his season with the Rockies looks to be over.

According to one of Ismond’s teammates he was in hospital in Cranbrook but hoped to be back in Invermere at some point within the coming week.

Though not with the team, Ismond has not been forgotten by the rest of the Rockies.

Rockies defenceman Max Mondrus said, “It is just bad luck. It is tough when you lose a player in that way.”

Mondrus also said the fact this was Ismond’s last year in junior made the injury twice as hard to deal with.

This sentiment was echoed by forward Sean Leslie who said he was surprised when he heard about the accident.

Leslie said Ismond will be missed by the team and it was too bad something like this happened just because the player wanted to cool off on a hot day.

Rockies’ General Manager Travis Belanger was just glad the goalie was going to be all right.

Belanger said, “This has nothing to do with hockey. We are just happy that Scott will be okay in the future. This was a very dangerous situation and we are glad he was not hurt in any other way.”

During a live webcast for the Rockies, multiple players sent out best wishes to Ismond who is still recovering from his injuries.
