Two injured in hydro accident at MNAP

Two BC Hydro workers from the Invermere unit are recovering in hospital after being electrocuted on the job on Sept. 13.

At approximately 2 p.m., the two powerline technicians were injured while adding a new service to Invermere’s new water pump system located at Mount Nelson Athletic Park.

After being immediately transported to the Invermere and District Hospital, the two men were airlifted to a hospital in Calgary.

“The incident is under investigation by BC Hydro and WorkSafeBC to determine what happened,” said Diane Tammen, Hydro's Community Relations officer for the East Kootenay region.

The injured employes have been identified as Stan Perry and Curt Minard, who continue to recover in the burn unit at Foothills Hospital.

"Both are in stable condition and have begun therapy," said Tammen, adding that it's too early to determine their long-term prognosis.

Following the incident, all BC Hydro employees were briefed on the incident and counsellors were made available to all Hydro employees and their families.

“Our thoughts are with the injured employees and their families,” added Tammen.
