Kootenay Savings Care Wear program dresses down to benefit Invermere Volunteer Fire Department
Drop by any Kootenay Savings branch on Fridays and you’ll see employees sporting what they call “Care Wear.” Ask any employee and they’ll tell you they’re wearing it for charity. This past Thursday, Credit Union Day, the entire group of 250 employees donated over $26,000 to local groups, charities, and non-profit organizations.
The Care Wear program gives employees the chance to dress casually each Friday. But for a price.
Participating employees pay $1 per week for the privilege and the contributed funds are then matched by the Kootenay Savings Community Foundation, essentially doubling the amount collected.
Once a year, coinciding with Credit Union Day, each branch and department chooses a worthwhile charity or group to donate their funds to.
This year, eighteen different groups from throughout the East and West Kootenay benefitted and since the program began back in 2004, over $124,000 has been distributed.
International Credit Union Day is celebrated annually on the third Thursday of October providing the opportunity to remember the proud history of credit unions and to promote awareness and support for the credit union difference of member-owners. This year, Kootenay Savings is especially proud to continue to provide excellent service to members and demonstrate a continued commitment to the community through difficult economic times. Part of that community commitment is the Invermere/Radium branch/office Care Wear program, which in 2009 benefitted the Lake Windermere District Lions Foundation Rescue Vehicle, with a donation of $1,716.
