Canal Flats Fire/Rescue dedicated
The Canal Flats Fire and Rescue squad consists of 16 members who have shown great dedication to their area of the Columbia Valley.
According to the Canal Flats group, working with other departments is more vital than ever before, especially when dealing with accidents on the local highways.
Having this mutual aid agreement with all Columbia Valley fire departments is very important so they can provide good coverage all the way up the valley.
The group has been working hard all this year to be a fire department and so much more for their residents and people who are traveling through the area. The department has also become road rescuers and first responders.
Currently the department has one road rescue unit, one tanker, and one pumper at their disposal.
The fire department is also in the process of getting a new heavy rescue vehicle and a new tanker hopefully within the next year.
The past year has seen the group respond to more road rescues, motor vehicle incidents, first aid calls and fire calls than last year which has kept them very busy.
Overall they are responding to an average 6-8 calls per month.
They are always looking for more volunteers and everyone is welcomed to come by and help out.
The department holds practises every Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m.
