The Castlegar Rebels reaffirmed their dominance last weekend against the Grand Forks Border Bruins with a 6-3 win.

This came one week after their last 7-2 win against the Bruins Oct. 24.

Rebels head coach, Brent Heaven, said the team really showed their strengths despite the fact that they were playing shorthanded due to the flu.

“We had a short line up with five or six guys sick. Those who played had good energy even though they weren’t feeling at the top of their game,” said Heaven.

During the first period, the Rebels fought hard against the Bruins, but the Bruins outscored them 2-3.

Initially things looked great during the first period when Ryan Aynsley scored with an assist from Spencer Brodt and Ross Gyurkovits. That goal was repeated less than 10 minutes later when Ryan Aynsley once again scored with an assist from Travis Flaherty and Keagan Little.

The Bruins rose to the challenge shortly thereafter with three goals, leaving the Rebels ready to strike back during the second period.

And strike back they did with yet another goal by Ryan Aynsley. That goal was unassisted.

The Rebels gained ground during the third period when the Bruins once again failed to score and they doubled their lead against the Bruins to bring them to a 6-3 finish.

During that period, last week’s star, Joel Robinson, scored with an assist from Spencer Brodt and Dylan Richardson, while Taylor Anderson scored shortly thereafter with an assist from Tyler Robinson and Corey Bulach.

Ryan Aynsley sealed the deal with his fourth goal of the evening. That goal, too, was unassisted.

Heaven said Aynsley is a solid player who has shown his metal throughout the season.

“He’s been great all year. I think he scored 20 points in October alone,” Heaven said.

The Rebels out shot the Bruins 47-17, a feat which pleases Heaven.

“The team is starting to get some of that goal production we have been talking about,” added Heaven.

The Rebels will face off against the Bruins on home ice this Friday at 7:30 and once again on Saturday on the Bruin’s home ice.
