Monday’s delivery of straw from Creston was a big success. 425 bales of straw were unloaded from the large Mountain Transport truck and loaded into assorted vehicles for more than 50 different straw buyers. What a wonderful day! The weather even cooperated. Our straw buyers were so excited and happy to have their straw. After such a long wait and some rather trying circumstances, everyone breathed a sigh of relief at the end of the day. With a spirit of camaraderie, we felt empowered being able to provide straw (a hard to come by commodity) to Castlegar and area gardeners.

The wonderful help contributed by so many people turned the Straw Project from a vision into reality. Information about ordering straw was passed by email and word of mouth.

It’s amazing what can be accomplished when people pitch in and everyone works together. It’s great to have people from the community lend a hand when needed.

A special thank you to Monday’s CGC volunteers who helped Linda Mulder and me unload and then reload all 425 bales of straw: Heather McSwan, Bev and Paul Salmon, Judy Sayers, Dorthy and Gordon Kaytor.

Special thanks to:

Marianne Crowe, who worked steadily unloading straw the entire day and the only Monday volunteer who wasn’t a CGC member! Carolyn Chalmers who so generously and graciously allowed her place to be used for the straw delivery.

Darlene Kalawsky for providing the tip to ask Mountain Transport about delivering the straw. Andy Roberts and MTI team for so generously donating the delivery of our straw without charge. Without Mountain Transport, our straw order would never have arrived.
