Castlegar wants to put a crimp on yard waste through its Castlegar Reducing its Mark Program (CRIMP).

That’s why the city is once again offering free curbside yard waste collection in October and November.

Yard waste, such as leaves, grass clipping, branches, tree or hedge clippings, flowers, plants and other organics will be collected curbside at no cost to residents.

Collection will be Oct. 20 and Nov. 2 for north Castlegar residents, while south Castlegar residents can put out their waste on Oct. 21 and Nov. 4.

In order to qualify for the program, you must be a Castlegar resident. The city is also offering CRIMP compostable yard waste bags free of charge from city hall. Bags must be tied off and if twine is used, it must be compostable.

If you use garbage cans, the city asks that the containers are identified as containing yard waste. Maximum weight per container is 23 kg, or 50 lb.

For more information contact the city at 250-365-7227.
