Castlegar’s long-awaited gaming centre will have to wait just a bit longer.

Castlegar Mayor Lawrence Chernoff, said there has been a change in the contract which has caused the delay.

Initially, Terrim Properties Ltd. was slated to build and operate the gaming centre.

That has now changed.

“He has a new partnership. They are not the contractor, but they will still be the provider,” explained Chernoff.

Despite the glitch, Chernoff said the centre will be built with construction beginning next year.

“It won’t be the same operator. There will be a change of operator. We’re looking at spring construction. The centre is still going ahead at the earliest possible time,” assured Chernoff.

Citing contractual issues, Chernoff added that more information will be forthcoming in the new year.

“We hope to have a definitive word by January 31 regarding the gaming centre.”

The News tried contacting Terrim Properties owner, Terry Segarty, but phone calls weren’t returned by press time.

Terrim Properties Ltd. operates gaming centers, (Bingo Halls), in Cranbrook and Vernon, B.C.

The Castlegar Gaming Centre is an $8 million project and is expected to be between 20,000 to 23,000 sq. ft. It is located beside the West Kootenay Regional Airport.
