Castlegar residents will be sweeping the streets clean on October 18.
The Kootenay Society for Community Living (KSCL) will hold its second annual Clean Sweep Challenge.
The society’s acting executive director Betsy Goolieff said the society began the event last year as a way to give something back to the community as the society is well supported in the region.
“We have received great support from the community and for once would like to give back,” Goolieff said.
The society is encouraging businesses as well as community members to come out and take part in this great event.
KSCL is asking those interested to meet at KSCL’s administration office, located at 2224 6th Ave., at 9:30 a.m. to pickup their clean sweep packages - which consist of gloves and garbage bags.
The groups will then be assigned a street to clean up for approximately two hours.
At noon, the groups are asked to gather all the garbage they’ve picked up and bring it back to the M&M Meats Shops parking lot where a garbage truck will be waiting.
For each bag of garbage collected and returned volunteers will receive a ticket that automatically enters them into a draw for some great prizes. M&M Meat Shops will provide a barbecue for all those who volunteered.
Goolieff said last year approximately 50 residents attended The Clean Sweep Challenge and they are hoping that many more people attend this year.
