The Nakusp Figure Skating Club held its year end awards dessert banquet on April 16th at the Nakusp Arena Auditorium.  Club president, Val Hill along with Coach Sabrina Hinson, started the evening with certificate and medal presentations to the club’s youngest members in the Kidskate program.

Next, small trophies were awarded to the members in the Canskate program which included skaters just starting out in the Skate Canada badge level 1 to skaters who had earned their final badge at level 7.  Coach Sabrina congratulated these Canskaters for their continued skill improvements and great attitudes.  She recognized three Canskaters with special medals:  Leah Holden for Canskater of the Year, who achieved all seven levels in one season- this also being her first year in skating; Kiley Waterfield and Anya Harrison received the “Spirit of Skating” medal for their commitment and love of the sport.

Senior Starskaters were congratulated on their successful season both in their competitions and testing results.  Test chair, Sandi Wiebe gave out the appropriate test ribbons and pins earned and acknowledged the girls’ volunteer hours during their busy schedules as program assistants with the Canskate groups.  The club trophies were then given out to the Seniors:  Danielle Aeichele was awarded the Citizenship Award; Kimberly Hill earned the Most Improved and the Best All-Around Skater trophies; Rachel Wiebe was awarded the High Point Achievement and Most Sportsmanlike trophies.

Val Hill concluded the evening by thanking Coach Sabrina for her tremendous commitment to our club and skaters, also to the executive, arena staff and parents who made this past skating season a very successful and enjoyable one.
