Village forms new committee; community bus to go to hot springs on Mondays
Nakusp village council notes for Oct. 27.
Village forms new committee, looks into a second Hot Springs committee
To help make sure the new emergency services building project proceeds as planned, Nakusp Mayor Karen Hamling and councillor Ulli Mueller agreed to sit on a special building committee. Village CAO Bob Lafleur will also be on the committee. Hamling said when the village chooses an architect and project manager, they will also be sitting on the committee. She adds when these two personnel are chosen, a meeting will be held with fire hall, ambulance and search and rescue personnel and everybody will discuss their needs, and in this meeting the final drawing and location will be decided on.
Councillor Cameron Leitch addressed bringing back a Nakusp Hot Springs committee, mentioning it sounded like the last committee was a good idea but it had issues with having to bring every detail to council to be passed through. Leitch said a lot of decisions are being made quickly at council regarding the hot springs, like setting the pricing for using the pool, and having a separate committee to deliberate on issues would bring more fleshed-out ideas to the table.
Hamling said the committee could work with three council members and positions filled by public members, as it had in the past, or if council is not comfortable with this, then they would have to attend more meetings. Councillor Joseph Hughes agreed a working group on the hot springs would be a good idea.
Community bus to visit hot springs on Mondays
The schedule for the weekly bus run to the hot springs is changing from Wednesdays to Mondays. Council addressed the issue of loyal users of the bus who would be missing out on the ‘Winter Wednesday’ special at the springs because of the change. Mayor Hamling said she would back the idea of giving those who use the bus the special Wednesday rate. Councillor Hughes, who said the bus customers have been loyal and considering the size of the small group who uses the services, agreed with Hamling. Council passed a resolution to allow those taking the community bus to the hot springs on Mondays to receive the special Wednesday rate.
