Nakusp Taxi is now on the roads in the village

After 15 years, a taxi service is back in Nakusp.

Jim Sharp, driver and proprietor of Nakusp Taxi, says he’s excited about starting up a public service which has been absent for so long. He says his original thought about starting up the taxi service was to help older people and possibly disabled people in transportation, though the three vans he has for the job are not yet rigged for wheelchair access but it is something he can see happening in the future.

“I’m disabled,” says Sharp, who owns an electric scooter, a wheelchair and says he cannot walk long distances. “I’ve always tried to find something that will work, because I’ve got mechanical hips, for my disability. There aren’t many jobs out there that I can do because of that.”

He says another main reason for starting the business were of course the community service.

“I’ve talked to so many people about how the service would go over in this town and we’ve just had an amazing response from everybody,” says Sharp.
