The Nakusp Secondary Sustainability Club is partnering with friends in Botswana, Africa, to rally support for the purchase of mosquito nets for those in need.
NSS student Annie Collins and her mother, NSS teacher Dr. Liza Ireland, met with a team from Botswana at the UN Children’s Conference on the Environment held in Korea this past summer.
“We have met the organizers in person and know all the money will go directly purchasing the nets,” says Ireland. “In addition to their net campaign to fight malaria, the organizers in Botswana teach people how to use them properly and how to improve their environmental conditions to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds.”
To purchase a net, certificates will be available from a variety of local businesses including Prima Materia, Spiritwood, the Nakusp Veterinary Clinic, Grooming by Til and Dog Sense Boutique. In New Denver, Ann’s Natural Foods will carry the certificates, as will The Cup and Saucer in Silverton.
