Where’d the puck go?
The North Kootenay Falcons, an all-Nakusp midget rep team, attended a tournament in Revelstoke this past weekend. Above, Nakusp goalie Cameron MacPherson scrambles in front of the net against Revelstoke to stop a shot from the crowded crease area. Nakusp played four games in the tournament, their first against Revelstoke which they lost 3-0. The managed to keep the game tied 0-0 until the third period when Revelstoke pulled ahead. In their second game on Friday Nakusp played Grand Forks and came out with a 4-2 win. On Saturday the Nakusp boys had only one game against Chase, losing the match 4-0. On Sunday the team went back to the rink to face off against Rossland/Trail where they lost the match 6-1. For Nakusp, this is the first year in as many as Nakusp Minor Hockey’s president Paul Reitmeier can remember that Nakusp has fielded it’s own midget rep team. Last year Nakusp teamed up with Nelson, based out of Nelson, and in years before Nakusp boys had teamed up with Kaslo to put together a competitive team. “It’s a young team,” says Reitmeier. “They’re all quite young players, so maybe even for the next couple of years we may even have a team.” The midget rep team will host five or six home games, says Reitmeier, because the scheduling had to be done before the ice was installed at the arena. Amid worries it may not be prepared in time, scheduling was pushed back and switched around to make sure the season would go smoothly. The Nakusp midget rep team is hosting it’s own tournament on Jan. 22, 23 and 24 in 2010.
