North Vancouver's Sean McColl has topped the world at the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) Climbing World Championships.
The competition took place in Qinghai, China, in early July.
McColl competed in the Lead, Bouldering and Speed categories to qualify for an overall ranking.
While he finished 43rd in Speed, the primarily Lead and Boulder competitor made it to the finals in both of the latter categories, finishing fifth and sixth.
The finals finish in the two were what vaulted McColl to the top, as the world's best overall climber.
McColl is the first Canadian to win a Climbing World Championships, and the only Canadian who competed this year. The Climbing World Championships takes place every two years.
McColl, 21, grew up climbing in North Vancouver and Squamish, was a decorated national youth team member, and considered by many to be one of North American's best sport climbers.
