Eugene Wong is so hot right now, one wonders whether he should be playing Glen Abbey for the Canadian Open this weekend instead of Marine Drive for the B.C. amateur crown.
The 17-year-old Handsworth grad won his second B.C. Junior Boys' title in Kamloops a few weeks ago, then took the hotly contested Callaway Junior Worlds, a showcase for future PGA stars, at Torrey Pines South Course (where Tiger Woods recently won on one leg) and now, Wong enters the final round of the B.C. Amateur Championship at Marine Drive today (Friday) with a two stroke lead. Wong, the only player to card all three rounds under par, fired a two-under 68 for a three-day total of four-under 206. James Allenby of Langley, B.C. also shot two-under 68, and positioned himself in second for the final round at 208. The top four finishers at the tournament will represent B.C. at the Canadian Amateur Championships in Lethbridge, Alta.
