Former Carson Graham football star Josh Boden may have played his last game for the BC Lions, as head coach and GM Wally Buono appears to be looking for an American receiver to replace him due to the young player’s legal woes.

Boden, 21, was scheduled to appear in provincial court today (Thursday) facing assault and two other charges following allegations made by a female complainant in relation to an April 12 incident in Burnaby. Boden joined the Lions in 2005 and has been mentored by older team members, including Carson Graham alumni Paris Jackson, in efforts to improve Boden’s professionalism and off-field actions. However Buono seems to have had enough of the talented but troubled player.

“(Boden’s court case) is a matter that is being examined closely by the club,” Buono said in a statement released last Friday. At press time the Lions had not reported placing Boden on CFL waivers — but reports indicating the club is holding tryouts in Las Vegas suggest an American replacement may be in the wings as the Lions attempt to bolster their receiver core of Jackson, Jason Clermont and Geroy Simon.

Boden left Carson Graham prior to his Grade 11 season and became a standout junior with the South Fraser Rams, winning B.C. Football Conference awards including outstanding rookie, receiver, offensive player and special teams player.
