Australian Frederick Hayes was moderately hypothermic when North Shore Rescue volunteers found him huddled under a log.
Wednesday evening, the 24-year-old was hiking down Grouse Mountain, along the BCMC trail, when he was separated from his friend. At 2 a.m. RCMP received a call as Hayes had failed to meet his friend.
Eight North Shore Rescue volunteers searched the forest, armed with noise-making devices, such as whistles and bear bombs, North Shore Rescue leader Tim Jones said.
"We made voice contact with him south of Baden-Powell Trail," he said.
Hayes' light track pants and hoodie were soaked by a night's worth of rain, when North Shore Rescue found him.
The organization is gearing up for the Olympics, during which time Jones expects trail traffic to be busier as tourists enjoy North Shore hikes. Jones wants to remind people hiking mountain trails to wear appropriate clothing and bring proper equipment, such as headlamps.
