Paving the way
Millennium Evelyn Properties Ltd. is one step closer to building its proposed 500-unit housing development.
On Sept. 14, West Vancouver council voted in favour of road closures needed to move the 20.9-acre Evelyn Drive project forward.
The closure and removal of highway dedication was needed to consolidate the roads into property owned by Millennium, which would allow the company to create new roads within the development, the district's community planning manager Geri Boyle told council.
Talking about access
TransLink's Access Transit User's Advisory Committee (UAC) is urging West Vancouver join a 50/50 cost sharing arrangement to upgrade bus stops.
As of June 2009, West Vancouver had 244 bus stops with 68 (24 per cent) being designated accessible, UAC wrote council in a letter.
Coast Mountain Bus Company provides municipalities with funding for bus stop improvements through the Transit Related Board Infrastructure Program.
Glass house
After much ado, a waterfront house at 6080 Blink Bonnie Rd. will be allowed to keep the glass guard around around its deck.
The guard rail on the roof of an accessory building was built overhanging the accessory building rather than 1.7 feet back as required by the district's building permit, the district's community planning manager Geri Boyle said.
It's all about the curve
West Van council approved the development of a house exceeding the district's maximum permitted height.
The proposed two-storey house, at 3751 Marine Dr., has a curve to its roof which puts the dwelling two feet over the municipalities permitted height.
However the buildings designed placed it in councils favour.
"(The proponents) are looking for architectural excellence," the district's community planning manager Geri Boyle said, noting the structure will not effect neighbours views.
