North Vancouver RCMP are urging cyclists to wear helmets while biking.

This comes after 34 cycling-related collisions in the past 16 months on the North Shore, police say. Across B.C., ICBC reports there are 1,300 crashes and 1,400 injuries involving cyclists annually.

A recent Public Health Agency of Canada report also found that in an accident, a bike helmet can lessen the chance of a brain injury by 85 per cent.

“If you don’t want to wear a helmet then walk or take the bus,” said Const. Sherri Wade.
