Police have arrested two local youths for breaking into a North Shore Rescue compound and tampering with a rescue chopper.

Cpl. Marlene Morton said a security guard visited a secure NSR location around Mount Seymour to find two young males in the area.

"They told the security guard they were lost and took off," said Morton. A guard phoned police after finding a door pried open.

One young male returned to the scene shortly after and Police Dog Services found another hiding in a ditch.

After a search of the compound, one helicopter was found to have been tampered with by the suspects, said Morton.

She said the helicopter was delayed in a trip to Lillooet today where it was scheduled to help fight forest fires. She said the aircraft needed a diagnostic by a flight engineer before it could be deemed flight-worthy.
