A North Vancouver man was arrested Sunday and charged in connection to the abduction and murder of 31-year-old Ronak Wagad last February.
Police suspect Wagad was abducted from his Vancouver apartment on Feb. 23, 2009.
A police investigation involving the RCMP’s E Division Major Crimes Section, Vancouver Police Department and North Vancouver RCMP Serious Crimes Section, led to the discovery of Wagad’s remains east of Chilliwack on July 8.
Last Friday, July 17, RCMP investigators arrested 31-year-old Surrey resident Charles Anthony Leslie in relation to this case.
Two days later, police arrested 27-year-old North Vancouver resident Babak Najafi-Chaghabouri.
Leslie appeared in Vancouver provincial court on Monday and Najafi-Chaghabouri had his appearance today.
Both men are known to police and are charged with first degree murder, abduction and forcible confinement. Both the accused and the victim were involved in the mid-level drug trade, police say.
“Three families have now been changed forever which is another example of the destruction of lives through the drug trade. Drug trafficking is a lose-lose proposition,” RCMP's spokesperson Sgt. Tim Shields stated in a media release. “The users lose, the traffickers lose, their families lose, our communities lose - we all lose. If you have a loved one involved in drug trafficking, please do everything possible - including calling police - to get them out before it is too late.”
