A North Vancouver woman busted for smuggling party drugs shaped like Homer Simpson and Transformers characters into the United States has been charged in the U.S. on three drug-related offences.

Krysta Edwards appeared in U.S. District Court in Seattle, Washington, Wednesday, July 15, along with Nes Cruces and Maksim Maiburov.

The three were charged with Conspiracy to Distribute BZP.

BZP, or N-benzylpiperazine is a strong stimulate used as a club or rave drug that is illegal in the U.S.

Edwards and Cruces were also charged with Importation for BZP, and Possession of BZP with Intent to Distribute related to a storage unit in Bellingham, Washington.

Maiburov was charged with Possession of BZP with Intent to Distribute related to a storage unit in Everett, Washington.

"She'll (Edwards) be scheduled for an arraignment but that's not available yet on the docket," said Emily Langlie, public affairs officer for the U.S. Attorney's Office, Western District of Washington. "So at that point, she'll enter a plea."

Edwards was nabbed June 26, after she was stopped by customs officers at the Pacific Highway Port of Entry in Blaine. A search uncovered a stash of pills in a secret compartment in the Ford Explorer she was driving.

However, border and security agents didn't immediately stop Edwards. Instead, they followed her to a mall in Bellingham where she met with Cruces, a U.S. citizen identified in court documents as Edwards' boyfriend.

The two were followed to a storage unit, where enforcement officers watched them park the Explorer and leave in another vehicle, a Suzuki Areo.

A few hours later, the two returned. Cruces was watched removing a speaker box from the Areo and entering the unit.

That's when officers arrested Edwards. When they entered the storage unit for Cruces, they found him surrounded by heat-sealed bags of pills similar to those discovered in Edwards' car.

U.S. authorities have seized more than 100,000 BZP pills with an estimated street value at more than $1 million, according to a U.S. border official.

Besides the charges, the court is asking for the forfeiture of a 1998 Ford Explorer, 2004 Suzuki Areo, and $2,600 US from Edwards and $200 US from Cruce that was seized from them at the time of arrest.

Edwards remains on bail, according to Langlie.
