Family holds Horseshoe Bay rally for missing teen

Friends and family of missing Squamish teen Jodi Henrickson will hold a rally in Horseshoe Bay this evening hoping to find people who could know more about her June 20 disappearance.

RCMP investigator Cpl. Dave Ritchie said after viewing security footage from B.C. Ferries, "We know that (Henrickson) got on a ferry on June 19 to Bowen Island."

Police have tracked Henrickson's movements that night to two parties on Bowen Island, but don't know what happened to the 17 year old after 6 a.m. on June 20.

Henrickson's family reported her missing to Squamish police June 24, said Ritchie.

Crystal Henrickson says it's "unusual" for her cousin Jodi "not to say where she's going for that amount of time."

With Jodi's brother Rob Henrickson, Crystal is the administrator for the more than 900-member Facebook group "Let's find Jodi Henrickson!" and she is organizing the 5 p.m. rally in Horseshoe Bay today.

She and others will hand out flyers showing their missing cousin in a close-up. On June 19, Jodi Henrickson boarded a Friday evening ferry, so there could be witnesses making regular trips during that time period, said Crystal.

"We're hoping there may be people that spend their weekends on Bowen, maybe saw something," said Crystal. "Maybe by seeing us, seeing the flyer, it may jog some kind of memory."

Crystal said the Henrickson family is reeling from the teen's disappearance.

"It's like a roller coaster ride. There are moments when I do want to give up," she said. "There are other moments when I am so certain she's going to be found in ten minutes . . . In the future other families will have to go through this. I can't wish that on anybody."

She said coverage in local media over her cousin's relationship with ex-boyfriend Gavin Arnott was tough on her family, who have been focusing on "staying positive" and "not getting in their (RCMP investigator's) way."

Arnott was given a no-contact order after assaulting Jodi Henrickson this spring, said Cpl. Ritchie. In one media report this week Arnott claimed to be the last person to see his ex-girlfriend June 20 and also denied any connection to her disappearance.

Ritchie said anyone with information should contact the police tip line at 604-947-0516.
