Lions Gate Hospital is getting $225,000 worth of renovations to support doctor training.
The renovations will turn existing space into a video conference room, a training and library room, office space, and call-back sleep rooms and washroom with shower.
"Medical students receive much of their education on the front lines of our health-care system," said North Vancouver-Lonsdale MLA Naomi Yamamoto. "Our investment in teaching hospitals like Lions Gate provides important opportunities for undergraduate and postgraduate students to develop skills for delivering best possible health care to patients in B.C."
The renovations, which are slated to be completed by Oct. 2009, are part of a $27-million capital program to expand and upgrade academic space in teaching hospitals across the province.
It will expand the province's medical school program to offer 256 first-year spaces per year for aspiring doctors.
