WEB EXTRA: Motorist allegedly extinguishes cigarette in officer's eye

A West Van man may face assault charges after he extinguished a cigarette in the eye of a bylaw officer on Tuesday.

The bylaw officer was working on Marine Drive just before 3 p.m. when he was allegedly assaulted by a motorist who had been issued a parking ticket. The man berated the officer then allegedly took a lit cigarette and shoved it into the officer's right eye with enough pressure to extinguish it.

Police are recommending charges of assault with a weapon and assault of a peace officer.

Jozef Baksay, 55, of West Vancouver was arrested and held in custody overnight. He was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday morning.
