West Vancouver police are investigating the sudden death of a 16-year-old girl over the weekend.
The teen's mother found her daughter unresponsive at about 9 a.m. on Saturday. Medical personnel tried to revive her but despite their efforts the girl was pronounced dead at Lions Gate Hospital.
Both the police and B.C. Coroners Service are investigating the cause of the teen's death. Police did not release a name but a Facebook page has been set up in memory of Carla Benavides, a West Van student.
"The circumstances of the death of the popular teen remain uncertain at this stage," said Cpl. Fred Harding in a news release. "As a result the West Vancouver
Counsellors are onhand giving support to students and staff at West Vancouver secondary who affected by the girl's death."
Anyone with information about what took place in the time leading up to the teen's death is asked to call the West Van Police at 604-925-7300.
