Burnaby Canoe and Kayak Club paddler Nicole Haywood won the C1 500-metre event at the 2009 ICF Canoe Sprint World Championship in Dartmouth, N.S., last week.
Although the C1 500 was run as an exhibition event at this year’s championship because it is not an Olympic event, Haywood won by nine seconds to claim the only first-place finish by a Canadian.
