The Burnaby Lakers stayed afloat in the B.C. Junior A Lacrosse League playoffs by downing the Coquitlam Adanacs 13-10 at the Coquitlam Sports Centre Wednesday evening.
The A’s, however, still lead the best-of-five semifinal series 2-1 with Game 4 going at Bill Copeland Arena on Sunday, 7 p.m. If Burnaby wins, the deciding fifth game will be played in Coquitlam next Wednesday. Wednesday’s loss was just Coquitlam’s second in 24 games this season.
The New Westminster Jr. Salmonbellies lead the other semifinal 2-0 over the Victoria Shamrocks heading into today’s game (Saturday) in the provincial capital. If a fifth game is necessary it will be played Tuesday in Victoria.
The Lakers came out strong scoring the game’s first two goals and then after the A’s drew even scoring three unanswered goals for a 5-2 lead after one period. Burnaby held a 9-7 lead heading into the third period and took control of the game with three goals in one minute and 42 seconds midway through the final frame.
“Burnaby just played like a desperate team, which they had to. We played all right but all right doesn’t cut it in the playoffs,” said Coquitlam coach Dan Perrault.
Riley Loewen led the Lakers attack with four goals and three assists while Jackson Decker had the opposite, three goals and four assists. Shaun Dhaliwal also turned in a seven-point performance including two goals
Mitch Dibblee also scored twice with Jaxson Lee and Blake Mattinson getting a goal and an assist each.
