NW’s Blajkevitch in Stanley Park semifinal

Khristina Blajkevitch, 17, of New Westminster has reached the semifinals of the Stanley Park Open. On Wednesday, Blajkevitch, the tennis tournament’s top seed, defeated Katie Brien of Abbotsford, who retired from the match after losing the first set 6-2. Thursday, she beat Gergana Boncheva of West Vancouver 6-4, 6-4 in the quarter-finals Thursday.

In a semifinal matchup today, Blajkevitch will play fifth-seeded Kari Wig of Cochrane, Alta. The other semi has second-seeded Katerina Boiko, 14, of Burnaby taking on Tanja Mahtani, the fourth seed.

Blajkevitch has spent the last two years training at Tennis Canada’s national centre in Montreal as well as traveling to junior tournaments around the world.
