While Sunday's game at Queen's Park Arena was a nasty affair full of hacking and whacking, fighting and misconducts, the result was much nastier for the visiting Victoria Shamrocks.
The New Westminster Salmonbellies took a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five B.C. Junior A Lacrosse League semifinal by downing the Shamrocks 8-4. The night before, New West surprised the hometown team in the provincial capital with a 10-8 triumph.
Kevin Crowley scored three of New West's first four goals Sunday as the Salmonbellies overcame a 3-2 first-period deficit by outscoring the Shamrocks 4-0 in the second. Leif Mydske, Ben Davies, Jordan Catton, Tyler Digby and T.J. Cowx also scored for New Westminster. Digby contributed three assists as did winning goaltender Neil Tyacke.
The Salmonbellies scored three power-play goals in the game filled with roughing, slashing, charging and fighting penalties along with seven misconducts and two game misconducts.
Saturday's game was much tamer. Both teams scored three goals in each of the first two periods, before the Salmonbellies took over with three unanswered goals for a 10-7 lead late in the third period.
Curtis Dickson had two goals and three assists while Cowx matched the five-point performance with a goal and four helpers. Digby had two goals and an assist with Crowley picking up a goal and two assists. Also scoring for New West was Daneil McQuade, Eric Lewthwaite, Mark Negrin and Mydske.
