Although the Burnaby Jr. Lakers had won seven of nine games, they ran into the first-place juggernaut Wednesday night suffering a 12-4 loss to the Coquitlam Adanacs.
The A’s jumped out to a 6-1 first-period lead with Burnaby’s only goal by Shaun Dhaliwal coming in the last minute. Dhaliwal scored three more times in the second period but that’s all the scoring the Lakers could muster.
The Adanacs are 17-1 and have clinched first place in the B.C. Junior A Lacrosse League while Burnaby is fourth at 8-10. The Lakers’ final three games are tonight (Saturday) in Delta, at home on Sunday (7 p.m.) against the Langley Thunder and in Nanaimo on July 5.
Third-place New Westminster Salmonbellies (10-6-1) were to play in Port Coquitlam last night. They are in Victoria on Sunday before playing host to the Thunder on Tuesday (8 p.m., Queen’s Park Arena) and in Langley on Thursday.
