Downtown New West is suffering

This year’s FraserFest was only saved by the talented Samira (Tina Turner impersonator).
There were fewer people and until the Quay public market (hopefully) gets running again there is nothing to keep people at the boardwalk.
Some of the vendors were closing way before 9 p.m. on Saturday.
As for the Burr Theatre, I have written in the past that it was criminal to close it in the first place. The King family and all the cast, crew and volunteers that spent countless hours rehearsing to bring quality entertainment to Downtown New West deserve a true apology.
What the city brought in after was not family entertainment nor was it what all the senior citizens that supported the Burr with donations wanted for their money.
We all know that even though it is a heritage building, it will come down so Mayor Wayne Wright can put up condos. With the loss of the Burr and the market, the Downtown area and the Quay are suffering.
